But the Globe, like all other media outlets is not a benevolent entity out to inform the public. They’re a business out to make money. And as sad as it may sound the murder of a young, male, minority isn't “news”. More likely the lack of murders would make more news then the actual crimes themselves.
As for the photos (tree v. Bank), sensationalism rules the day. I'm sure they’d all be bumped if the globe had pictures of Brad Pitts baby.Big Alhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04074918254194609619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19068532.post-1147901677435981272006-05-17T17:34:00.000-04:002006-05-17T17:34:00.000-04:00Max-Thank you for your comments. I do not have to dig to find racism in the media, as it is everywhere.

I agree that you cannot compare the crime of planting a tree to that of robbing a bank. I am not comparing these crimes but rather the way that the perpetrators are portrayed in newspaper photos. I hope that you can understand the difference and realize that no one, ALLEGED bank robber or not, deserves to be photographed in such a degrading manner.

Also, I specifically do not compare the loss of 100 people in a fire to that of one young man on the street. Instead, I am observing that the loss of 100 white people three years ago is still front page news while the loss of several young people of color last week is business as usual. It is a tragedy that so many people were killed in a fire, but it is also a tragedy that there have been almost 140 shootings so far this year.sarahlighthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14276431216199129157noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19068532.post-1147715732093834902006-05-15T13:55:00.000-04:002006-05-15T13:55:00.000-04:00Actually Anderson Cooper discussed a similar issue...Actually Anderson Cooper discussed a similar issue on his Blog 360 (http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/).

In case you missed it I will post it later.Nettricehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12504775819888371286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19068532.post-1147460804200168332006-05-12T15:06:00.000-04:002006-05-12T15:06:00.000-04:00theres so much wrong with every thing you wrote i ...theres so much wrong with every thing you wrote i dont know where to begin.
Comparing media coverage of 1 murder in a large metropolitan area with the deaths of 100 people, and subsequent trial is beyond ridiculous.
And a tree planter and a bank robber? Your kidding right?
Digging for racism, like these absurd examples, only leads to apathy by the public. Find a real issue.Big Alhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04074918254194609619noreply@blogger.com
